If I have learned one thing about taking photographs is that it teaches patience which is a wonderful asset to possess, an attribute worth cultivating. I was reminded about that this morning when I looked out my kitchen window at a yellow oceanic spread of hundreds of dandelion flowers blowing softly at the hands of daybreak’s breeze. So in my typical excited frenzy, I seized my camera and dashed out the door. My eyes were delighted to find a flurry of activity by way of industrious little bees that were hovering from flower to flower in earnest commitment to their colony. I tried in vain to chase them all over to get my shot as they exchanged flowers busily which only resulted in my frustration levels rising. I stood round shouldered staring at them with my camera in hand feeling incapable and defeated...by little bees. I looked out into the rolling field that lies ahead of our house and my quiet voice said, “Go sit down amongst the flowers, stop chasing and wait. Let them come to you”. So I listened, promptly plonked myself down on the damp earth and I just enjoyed. I watched the production line of honey makers in search of pollen to turn into their sweet liquid gold. Their striped black and yellow bodies speckled in the buttery dust of the flora they had laboured. And that’s when the magic happened. That’s when it always happens; when I don’t try too hard, when I flow with the perfect timing of how things should happen, not how I want them to happen. When I relax, enjoy and let go of trying to control things that are just not for the controlling spirit of a perfectionist like me.
On this eve of 2014 I hope you step into the New Year and sit yourself amongst the flowers, look around you and notice how much loveliness you are wrapped in. I hope you relax without forcing, enjoy without wanting to control and let what it is that you want come to you. The desire is always there, all that is required is patience, a sense of wonder and a willingness to let go of the need to want to know that you will get your shot.
I hope your 2014 produces the sweetest honey as you sprinkle the pollen of your love in your labours of commitment to what it is you want for yourself. Bee patient, it will come to you if you give it the space it needs to expose itself to you in all its magnificence!
Happy Happy People!
How I see it...
I see, speak and write in metaphors because I feel there is much we can learn from nature, people and our surroundings as depicted in my photographs and why I enjoy sharing my thoughts. Not in any attempt to convince or convert you to my way of thinking, seeing or feeling but to share how I see and experience MY mind map of the world. You at no time have to agree, all I ask is that my views and the views of others who wish to express theirs are kindly respected. So relax, get comfy and just enjoy. Happy reading!
